This is the first sketch I've done in the process of trying to make a clean line art for a tattoo with a more "soft" form for an acrylic painting. Basically, I'm playing with ideas of posing, trying to get anatomy correct, looking at details that I need to improve upon, and getting comfortable and confidant with drawing birds before starting on the final work.
As stated, this is a sketch of a Phoenix. At least my vision of one, which as it is mythical, an artist gets a lot of free riegn on how they feel said creature looks.
This was done in 5-10 minutes with General's Charcoal (soft) with touches of White charcoal on various points, which gave those areas a blue color. Then it was put onto the lappy and I played with the contrast.
